October is National Physical Therapy Month, a time to recognize the powerful, transformative work physical therapists do every day. This year, I’m choosing to celebrate not only the profession I love, but more importantly, the small daily wins of my patients, the ones that often go unseen but carry incredible impact.

I’ll be honest, when I first started my journey into physical therapy, I never imagined becoming a pelvic floor physical therapist. Like many aspiring PT students, I envisioned myself working in orthopedics, helping athletes get back on the field or supporting patients through post-surgical recovery. I didn’t see myself stepping into such an intimate and deeply personal field like pelvic health.

But life (and mentors) had other plans. Some of the most influential faculty members in my physical therapy program were pelvic health specialists. Their passion, compassion, and expertise drew me in. Wanting to explore the field more, I completed a clinical rotation at Reborn, a clinic known for its exceptional pelvic health care. From that moment on, I knew I had found my place.

Working in pelvic floor physical therapy has been more fulfilling than I ever could have imagined. It’s not just about anatomy and exercise, it’s about restoring quality of life in profoundly meaningful ways. The daily wins I get to witness are nothing short of inspiring.

Wins like…

  • A mom being able to play tag with her kids without leaking.
  • A coach confidently running in soccer practice without worrying about urgency or accidents.
  • Someone being able to go back to working out, or even just sneeze or cough without fear or pain.

These moments may seem small, but for my patients, they’re life-changing. For me, being part of those victories is incredibly meaningful.

There are other powerful wins too improvements in intimacy and reductions in pain with intercourse, successful vaginal deliveries, smoother postpartum recoveries, and healing after hysterectomy. Each success story is a testament to the strength, resilience, and determination of the people I have the honor of treating.

One of my favorite parts of this work is seeing the light return to someone’s eyes when they realize that the symptoms which once consumed so much of their mental energy no longer hold them hostage. They begin to reclaim space in their minds and lives for joy, productivity, connection, and simply being.

So this National Physical Therapy Month, I’m celebrating all the incredible wins, big and small that physical therapy makes possible. I’m celebrating the people who show up, do the work, and regain their confidence, freedom, and quality of life.

Here’s to the strength of our patients, the power of healing, and the beauty of the daily wins.

Happy National Physical Therapy Month!
