Return To Exercise Postpartum

Exercise after giving birth is part of a healthy lifestyle. Postpartum exercise has been shown to be beneficial at all stages of life. It is best to return to exercise gradually based on women’s physical abilities. It’s recommended that you return to pre-pregnancy exercises before six weeks and well after 6 weeks postpartum.

Running Postpartum

It is important to address any injuries sustained during labor or delivery. To be able to return to exercise, muscles need to be properly rehabilitated. It is important to remember that trauma from labor and birth is not something to be overlooked.

Rebuild Strength & Confidence

Postpartum recovery involves much more than healing after delivery. Proper rehabilitation can improve pelvic floor function, restore core strength, reduce pain, and improve overall movement patterns so your body can recover more efficiently and comfortably. Our therapists use a whole-body approach that includes movement assessment, breathing mechanics, core rehabilitation, and pelvic floor therapy to support complete recovery.

Your care is always individualized and designed to support both immediate healing and long-term wellness. We help you safely return to exercise, lifting, childcare activities, and the routines of daily life while providing education and guidance every step of the way. The goal is not simply to “bounce back,” but to help you feel stronger, healthier, and more supported throughout every phase of motherhood.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start postpartum physical therapy?

Many patients begin postpartum physical therapy around 2–4 weeks after delivery, depending on how they feel and guidance from their medical provider. Early therapy can help support healing, breathing mechanics, core activation, and overall recovery.

What can postpartum therapy help with?

Postpartum therapy can help address pelvic pain, urinary leakage, core weakness, diastasis recti, back pain, scar mobility, and general discomfort after childbirth. Treatment is personalized to your symptoms and recovery goals.

Is postpartum recovery only focused on the pelvic floor?

No. While pelvic floor rehabilitation is important, postpartum therapy also focuses on core strength, breathing, posture, mobility, and whole-body movement to support complete recovery and long-term wellness.
