Pelvic Floor Discoordination Treatment in Utah

When Your Muscles Aren’t Working Together, We Help Restore the Rhythm.
Pelvic floor discoordination—also called dyssynergic defecation—is a common yet misunderstood condition that affects the body’s ability to properly coordinate pelvic muscles during bowel movements. At Reborn Pelvic Health & Wellness, we provide targeted physical therapy to retrain your pelvic floor, restore function, and improve quality of life.

What Is Pelvic Floor Discoordination?

In a healthy pelvic floor, the muscles relax and contract in a coordinated way to support urination, bowel movements, and core function. With discoordination, those muscles fail to work together—often contracting when they should be relaxing.

The result?

  • Chronic constipation
  • Painful or incomplete bowel movements
  • Rectal pressure
  • Excessive straining
  • The feeling of never fully emptying

This condition can affect anyone—but with expert treatment, it’s highly manageable.

Common Symptoms of Pelvic Floor Discoordination

You may be dealing with pelvic floor discoordination if you:

  • Struggle to pass stool despite the urge
  • Have hard, dry stools and straining
  • Use manual pressure (finger, hand, or device) to have a bowel movement
  • Experience anal or rectal pain
  • Have pelvic heaviness or bloating
  • Suffer from hemorrhoids or anal fissures from straining

If these issues sound familiar, pelvic floor physical therapy can help restore proper function and relieve your symptoms at the source.

Causes of Pelvic Floor Discoordination

Pelvic floor discoordination often stems from:

  • Poor toileting habits (e.g., rushing or straining)
  • Pregnancy or childbirth
  • Pelvic surgery or trauma
  • Nerve dysfunction or injury
  • Chronic stress or anxiety
  • Muscle imbalances in the pelvic region

At Reborn, we look at your full history, not just your symptoms, to create a plan that works with your body—not against it.

Dr. Betty’s passion for pelvic health and whole person wellness is immeasurable! I’ve gone to traditional physical therapy clinics in years past and found it difficult to keep/schedule appointments with young kids in tow. I have also went blindly to an in network provider only to find that it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Betty offers IN HOME concierge PT services and a FREE 15 min phone consultation to see if she’s a good fit/what to expect/etc. Necessary forms can be filled out online prior to the appointment to maximize evaluation and treatment time. She has lots of tools in her at home tool kit! My kids are older now but I find schedules keep getting busier so without Betty coming to my home, I fear I would still just be trying to run through my nagging running injury. I am back to enjoying pain free miles! Compassion and convenience don’t often go together but with Betty they do!

Betty is PHENOMENAL at what she does. From our first conversation, it was really apparent that she has a huge wealth of knowledge about everything relating to pelvic PT, and she’s super passionate about it! I’ve had just three appointments with her so far, and have already seen huge improvement in my pelvic health–my menstrual cramps have gone from debilitating to nearly gone! And we’re working on lots of other things to help me gain awareness of, take responsibility for, and optimize my pelvic health!
